WIM New Years Gala

So Happy 2012, and I have started it already with a fabulous workshop with Lisa Zahiya of Asheville. She was here teaching Bellyfunk, hip hop fusion it was great! 4 Fabulous tiring hours and then off to a show that night. I did my Isis Wings (MY Favorite!!!) to a mix of Epic sounding songs by Audiomachine. I even did some floor work and laybacks. I had practiced during the week and my legs were so sore. Anyhow, it is all thanks to Jazzercise I even have the core strength to be able to pull it off.

Here are some photos take by Melissa Richard. **Thanks Melissa!!

{JOY}

So I was on Facebook a couple days before the New Year and saw a friends post. She is actually a wonderful hoop instructor here in the Triangle. Circle of Joy by Caroleeena. Anyhow, she had posted an article by this writer who was talking about, how instead of making ‘resolutions’ you should choose a word for the year. Alot of people make a list of all these ‘resolutions’, I know I do, and I rarely stick to them. Last year, the only one I kept up with was exercise. (YEAH JAZZERCISE!!) So the word I chose for 2012 was {JOY} I want to focus on being happier this year. All the time, even when I am sad, even when I feel tired, even when someone cuts me off. Yesterday I was feeling frustrated with my kids homework, and I could feel myself getting worked up, and my son said ‘ mom, remember your word? ‘. LOL. I said, “YES”. So I stopped and took a breath and immediately relaxed. My little kids did this too. (Their words are “Focus and Imagination”) We wrote our words on River stones and have them where we can see them.

So I think of it often throughout the day. I will think of it while dancing. Because you should always feel JOY when you DANCE! xxoo

HAPPY JOYFUL 2012

{ 2012 goals}

Looking back on this past year, I realize I did not fulfill some of my goals, which were to work on a new DVD each week (yeah right) perhaps a month, still didn’t happen. I might have gotten through 2 in the whole year. The fact is I was so busy performing and always having to prepare for shows, I never had time to just relax and work on fun stuff. I was always feeling the pressure for an upcoming show. (I have decided that is the #1 thing I am changing this year). I also wanted to exercise and get in shape which I did. I continued with my Jazzercize classes which I did 3x a week since July 2009 and will still continue to do because it is great overall exercise.

Goals for 2012

-Try and be more positive. Focus of positive stuff and be happy and not dwell on the negatives and what I cannot change.
-Cut back on dance events and teaching
-Spend more time with family and fun stuff with my kids
-Market my businesses more
-More photo field trips
-finish my 2 costume projects
-work on at least 3 new DVD’s
-choreograph at least 2 new dance pieces
-more sword dances and Isis wings!!!
-continue to workout and be healthy
-cut back on FB
-work on my fire dancing
-make more time for dedicated dance practice
*I really want to go up to CT to visit friends and family this year.

Christmas Party Performance

I performed last night at another Christmas party. What fun! This was a total surprise for the guests. A couple guests who are my friends new, but they kept quiet. I arrived as a guest and mingled in the crowd. We tested out the CD and sound and then I got ready and surprised everyone. The space was huge and the ceilings were high so I was able to do my Isis Wings. The total performance was about 20 min, but I cut this clip down to about 7. It isn’t often I get video footage at private events, so this is like a ‘behind the scenes’. LOL. There were some really funny moments. You have to watch all the way through–no cheating and skipping to the end!

{Lost Nomads in the News}

A columnist, Sylvia Pfeiffenberger, for the Independent Weekly, wrote an article and featured the Lost Nomads. It is titled “Two glimpses into the Triangle’s often overlooked musical diversity” featuring Middle Eastern and Jazz music. A big Thanks to Sylvia for a wonderful article. She was at Fullsteam Brewery in November for ‘Undulation Nouveau’ and saw their performance.

{Holiday Party}

I performed last night at a special holiday party. My friend, Tara Haggar, is the owner of East Cary Jazzercise which I absolutely love. I go there and workout 3 mornings a week! She hosted a wonderful holiday party for all her students and I was the ‘surprise’ entertainment.
